santa barbara cruise

Experience the breathtaking Santa Barbara sunset like never before aboard the Azure Seas, our 70’ luxury yacht! Departing from the iconic Stearns Wharf, immerse yourself in the mesmerizing golden hour on the water—the perfect setting for Santa Barbara’s stunning sunsets. Foodies and wine enthusiasts will feel right at home with the near-limitless gastronomic offerings.

Santa Barbara Coastal Cruise

Founded by Europeans in 1786, Santa Barbara teems with centuries of history. To learn about the first inhabitants of the American Riviera, the Chumash Indians, visit the Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History and the Santa Barbara Historical Museum, both of which are located downtown. If you're looking for Spanish inspiration, head to Old Mission Santa Barbara, the city's chief cultural landmark that was established in 1786.

First timer’s guide to California's Santa Barbara

The gorgeous coastal ride starts from Union Station in Los Angeles and takes just over two-and-a-half hours to arrive directly in downtown Santa Barbara. As a world-class foodie destination, Santa Barbara will exceed your expectations in the food and wine category. Cruise to Santa Barbara to visit The Lark for half-shelled oysters and grilled Spanish octopus straight from the sea. Take a trip to La Super-Rica Taqueria, a location discovered by Julia Child herself, for their much-lauded corn tamales and tacos with handmade tortillas.

Shopping Near the Santa Barbara Cruise Port

Santa Barbara is located right within wine country, and exploring the surrounding Santa Ynez Valley is a fantastic way to spend the day. From the Foxen Canyon wine trail to the famous Fess Parker Winery and Vineyard, there is no shortage of wineries and vineyards to visit during your Santa Barbara cruise port of call. Booking a wine tasting shore excursion is your best bet, since you won’t need to worry about driving or getting back to your ship on time. Riding a bike around the downtown area is a lovely way to spend your day in port on a Santa Barbara cruise. There are bike racks all over town, including up and down State Street, that make it easy to stop and try a cup of locally roasted coffee, shop, or grab a bite to eat.

There’s so much to pack in during your time in Santa Barbara, but there are a few must-dos that showcase the city. Make sure you cruise along the scenic Cabrillo Bike Path, which offers breathtaking views of the coastline and the Santa Ynez Mountains. Santa Barbara bathes in near-perfect weather, averaging more than 300 days of sunshine each year, so there’s really no bad time to visit. For travelers looking for that quintessential Californian experience, July and August are when the sun is at its hottest and the water is warmest. While the warmer season does bring larger crowds and higher prices, consider planning your trip around Santa Barbra’s Old Spanish Days Fiesta. The city truly comes alive during the five-day festival that honors Santa Barbara’s history, spirit, culture, heritage and traditions.

In addition, look for shops selling local agricultural products like olive oil, jams, and other packaged California food items you won’t want to miss bringing home with you as a souvenir. Don’t miss out on the area’s fresh seafood dishes, ranging from casual fish tacos to exquisitely prepared catches of the day. To complete your local dining experience, head to McConnell’s Fine Ice Creams for a scoop of its deliciously decadent ice cream. We chose the Sunset Cruise, as my husband and I were celebrating aour 11th Anniversary. Charter the Whisper for a maximum of 6 for 1 hour, bring your own lite fare and some wine, and enjoy a pleasant time in and around the Santa Barbara harbor. "Perfect way to wine and dine (well with appetizers!) our out of town family and friends for our rehearsal dinner. The best way to show off our beautiful city. The staff were so wonderful, kind, and accommodating."

The celebrations begin on the Wednesday before the first Friday in August, and 2024 will mark its 100th anniversary. Each year over 25,000 Gray whales migrate over 14,000 miles from Alaska to Mexico and back. This migration is the longest of any mammal on the planet and passes through the coastal waters of Santa Barbara from mid-February through mid-May. Join SunSwept Sailing for a thrilling up close and personal whale watching experience! The Santa Barbara Harbor and surrounding Channel Islands are often locations with special meaning.

Private Cruises

Santa Barbara is considered to be a relatively expensive place to visit due to its popular coastal location and luxurious upscale amenities. Another great spot is Monetcito – another coastal town only a 10 minute drive with boutique shopping and sprawling estates. If you’re lucky, you may even bump into Oprah Winfrey, Prince Harry, Ellen DeGeneres or plenty of other celebrities who call this area home.

Wine can be brought aboard the Double Dolphin for private charters only. Each bottle is subject to a $25 corkage fee and no bottle over 750 ml will be permitted. Hard alcohol, wine, and beer are all permitted aboard Private Skippered Charters free of charge. The spectacularly stunning city of Santa Barbara is located just two hours north of Los Angeles. Perched between the Santa Ynez Mountains and the wild waves of the Pacific Ocean, Santa Barbara is one of the jewels of the California coastline that you’ll visit on a Pacific Coast cruise.

Channel Islands Marine Sanctuary and Channel Islands Park are approx 32 km (20 ml) offshore. We offer a highly-curated selection of adventures of a lifetime for travelers of all ages. Our vessels are a perfect location to host a private event for any special occassion.

The options are plenty when it comes to getting in and around Santa Barbara. A direct flight to Santa Barbara Municipal Airport (SBA) is an option with flights from all around the US, including Portland, Salt Lake City, and even Atlanta. From there, a ride-share service or hotel shuttle can transport you the 10 miles to downtown. Just 90 minutes from Los Angeles, whether visiting for just the day or a long weekend, it’s a no-brainer. Times vary for our Santa Barbara Sunset Cruises due to the season, shifting between 3 PM and 7 PM.

If you’re not into wine, you can also find a number of local craft beers in the bars and eateries of Santa Barbara. The Old Mission Santa Barbara was founded in 1786 and is the only California mission that still serves as a home to Franciscan friars. The mission’s architecture is beautiful and has largely influenced many of the buildings that have been built in the city since. Docent-led tours are offered daily on a first come, first served basis. "The crew was very friendly and helpful. We had beautiful views of Santa Barbara and its surroundings. The appetizers were delicious. The boat was clean and comfortable. If we have the opportunity, we will do this again."

From its pristine beaches, one-of-a-kind hiking trails, vibrant culture, mouthwatering eateries, live music scene, renowned vineyards, and plenty more… there won’t be a minute to spare. Visit one of the most beautiful and least visited National Parks in the U.S. on one of our custom built adventure vessels. We offer island kayaking, snorkeling, SCUBA diving, and wildlife viewing. The Santa Barbara Landing is your destination portal to all kinds of ocean boat tours. Our crew are knowledgeable about the area and share interesting bits of local info that make our tours informative and fun.

Santa Barbara can be enjoyed as an easy day or weekend trip from Los Angeles (travel time is only 90 minutes). However, with so much to do and see, true explorers will relish the opportunity to linger for three to four days (and many lodging properties offer guests their third night free). By purchasing these ticket(s) it has been acknowledged Celebration Cruises will not be offering a refund for any cancellations that are within 48 hours before the scheduled departure time. Any cancellations made prior to the 48 hours will result in a partial refund.

While the whole state of California is known for its beautiful beaches, the stretch along the Santa Barbara coast is particularly pristine. Head east from State Street, the main avenue for dining and shopping in the city, to easily access the clear blue waters of East Beach. If you're looking to reel in some fresh fish, head to Stearns Wharf, the oldest working pier in California. ExploreArroyo Burro Beach, Butterfly Beach in Montecito and Leadbetter Beach for surging, boogie boarding and paddle boarding adventures. Cruise along Santa Barbara’s coastline and watch the sun set on the 70′  multi-level luxury yacht, Azure Seas. Taxis are the easiest way to get around Santa Barbara, but they’re not necessarily the most charming mode of transportation.

Right, but what I've heard is that it may still be spotty. But they did dry-dock the Pride this year, so maybe the made improvements. I was just thinking that to support internet calling you'd need something good enough to also support streaming. I understood that you weren't trying to actually watch netflix. Some phones, or verizon, or iPhone can now call over wi-fi.

Are Princess Plus and Princess Premier available for all stateroom types? Both Princess Plus and Princess Premier are available to ALL guests and ALL stateroom types. These packages are capacity controlled and are available for purchase pre-cruise or on board. Will I receive the new perks if I purchased Princess Plus or Premier at the old rate of $50/$75 per day?

(Not actually sure about the last two... the first three have upgraded their premium wi-fi to support Netflix.) And, yeah I don't know what the "$100" plan is as wi-fi is priced per day. I think you'd have to have Premium for it to possibly work for calls. Or just get the social media level and use Facebook messenger. If I sail on back-to-back cruises, do I get four specialty dining meals in Princess Premier? If you have booked Princess Premier on both of the back-to-back cruises then you will get two (2) specialty dining meals on each voyage, making it a total of 4 specialty dining meals.

A one-time access fee of $14.99 per person per voyage will apply for OceanNow® delivery and a $5 room service fee will apply for each order placed by stateroom phone. OceanNow delivery refers to orders placed through the app that are delivered to wherever you are, including your stateroom. Your AT&T cruise package will automatically start working after 9 – 11 nautical miles from the shore.

You can take turns with the wifi depending on who wants to use it. Some cruise lines their grades are not actually low-mid-high speed but all the same speed, just more or less sites banned. So when you sign up for Social media -- those are the only sites you can go to. But all the same speed or that is what I understand. The Pros And Cons Of AT&T Cruise Packages

Margaritaville at Sea will take you from relaxation to revelry with your choice of stops anywhere in between. Delectable food, St. Somewhere Spa & Salon, live music and shows–from sunrise to sunset and every moment in between, there’s always something exciting happening. It's always 5 o'Clock with our No Doubts Premium Drink Package - enjoy any 10 top-shelf specialty cocktails, liquor, beer or wines by the glass.

Both have a one-time charge, automatically expire after 30 days, and provide coverage on over 175 qualifying cruise ships when at sea (PDF, 390KB). No, the Cruise package only includes usage incurred onboard select cruise ships listed at att.com/cruise. For usage on land/in-port, add an available international business mobile plan. A cruise package will help provide coverage while you’re in international waters, but it won’t necessarily cover every port you visit. If you are visiting destinations that are not included in your cruise package, you might want to consider adding an international roaming package.

Package onboard was $265.32, including 18% gratuity. They're making improvements but only one ship at a time (when in dry dock). I would only advise using Carnival's wifi for calling if you will be on Horizon, Vista, Panorama, Radiance, or Sunrise.

I've done the math on typical unlimited drink packages, and the cost simply isn't worth it for me. Easy to book and easy to plan, Margaritaville at Sea invites you to climb aboard for nonstop fun, where it’s always 5 o'clock at sea. Our cruise offers are an irresistible opportunity to get a great deal on your next Caribbean escape.

Even little ones will find plenty of ways to play with spaces and activities designed for tots to tweens. One of the top reasons savvy travelers love cruising, though, is because of the incredible value it offers. With Royal Caribbean, your cruise fare includes access to most of the ship’s attractions, select dining venues and all of the entertainment onboard. On top of all that, the cruise line presents frequent limited-time offers and seasonal sales, making it easy to score big savings when booking your vacation. If you can be flexible when it comes to your travel dates, you’ll have your pick of unbeatable savings.

The Hangar has multiple waiting areas — a main space for the Zodiac queue with bench seating, a gear-up zone for kayakers and a seating area (with snacks and hot beverages) for guests going on a kayak or submersible ride. For dinner, I could also make reservations at The Restaurant for a big-ship-style three-course meal with waiter service. For a date night or a group celebration, or just Thursday, Manfredi's wowed with its housemade pasta and Italian specialties. Shackleton could have survived for days on a plate of the restaurant's droolworthy gorgonzola gnocchi. For its not quite 400 guests, the ship has four restaurants, plus room service. For example, each morning, I'd make my way upstairs to the World Cafe buffet for breakfast, where I'd debate whether I should pillage the fruit and yogurt bar or ask one of the chefs for a made-to-order omelet.

Pass through the scenic Canadian Maritimes, sail along the famed St. Lawrence Seaway and visit historic cities along the East Coast. The company’s u-tank stabilizers are built to significantly decrease rolling when the ship is stationary, but weather conditions can be unpredictable, and it's not as if you can pop into a local CVS on the continent. Most passengers could be found with patches, ginger chews, or over-the-counter (and prescription) remedies.

Viking Expeditions

If you want to keep in shape during your voyage, there's a gym that looks upon the sea. Those who love more relaxing activities will find a whole range available, from educational seminars to wine tastings to movie nights. Viking has kicked off its Antarctic cruise season with the arrival of Viking Polaris and Viking Octantis to the Antarctic Peninsula.

This 87-Day Arctic to Antarctica Luxury Cruise Stops in 12 Countries Along the Way

The 378-passenger expedition-style cruise ship — from every "Downton Abbey"-loving baby boomer's favorite ocean/river/expedition cruise line Viking — is like the Goldilocks of the South Pole. It's not so big that it can't let guests disembark onto Antarctica's snow-covered shores, nor is it so small that it can't offer creature comforts like spacious cabins, multiple dining venues and that expansive spa. While excursions offered on the Octantis will vary by destination, the ship’s hangar full of toys gives passengers a glimpse of what to expect wherever they sail with the ship. It currently houses 16 kayaks, 17 zodiacs, two special operations boats, and two yellow submarines (named John and Paul, as if there were any other option; the Polaris will have George and Ringo). In my experience, traditional landings and Zodiac cruises are still exciting enough for a full Antarctic adventure. I never once grew tired of seeing penguins in the wild, chock full of playful personality.

My Trip

Take a virtual tour of the ship to see what awaits you if you book this trip. Viking’s From the Arctic to Antarctica cruise is a 87-day journey that includes stops in 12 countries across three continents. Wildlife abounds in this part of the world, and lucky passengers, armed with patience and binoculars, will be rewarded with the sights of polar bears, bowhead whales, beluga whales, and a large variety of birds among other fascinating creatures.

I didn't see the giant phantom jellyfish spotted earlier in the cruise — and about which Viking's expedition team published a paper in the scientific journal "Polar Research" — but I enjoyed the novel approach to sightseeing in Antarctica ... I was frustrated because I'd gone to hear a talk by one of the expedition crew members and missed an orca whale sighting. The few times I stopped by The Hide during the day, I would collapse into an oversized chair, put my feet up below the slanted windows and immediately start to doze off, lulled by the rocking of the ship. In the evenings, we'd grab a double shot of Baileys at the speak-easy-style bar (all the booze, minimal mixers) and listen to the expedition crew members tell tales of their adventurous exploits, like a bedtime story for grown-ups. I, on the other hand, had come to the spa not for whales, but to try the Nordic bathing ritual of alternating between heated rooms like the sauna or steam room and cooling experiences like a cold water bucket dump and a snow room. It wasn't so different from the rest of my day, moving from the comfort of my cozy cabin to the extreme outdoors of the Antarctic Peninsula and now to this steamy spa.

Viking Polaris Has its Water Toys, Including a Special Operations Boat

I'm on a Viking Expeditions Cruise in Antartica, onboard Viking Polaris, the newest expedition ship from Viking and a sister to Viking Octantis; both ships debuted in 2022. Advance bookings (number of days before the ship’s departure) for the spa, alternate restaurants, and excursions are dependent on the stateroom category you book. Outside, the ship has plenty of lounging space, with comfortable seating and firepits, on the deck and the Shelter (a covered outdoor space with seating). Witness stunning vistas, unique wildlife and diverse cultures as you journey on a memorable voyage from the Earth’s far north to the extreme south.

We sailed on the Viking Polaris, taking guests to the Arctic, where we trekked through the powdery white snow to encounter seals, birds, and whales. Guests gain firsthand experience with onboard scientists, touring the lab facilities, participating in experiments, and exploring the cavernous hangar storing the zodiac boats, Special Op Boats, and the cool submarines. It all starts with The Hangar, which is part water-level boat storage, part comfortable passenger loading zone.

The ship brings expedition vessels for you to use designed for exploring the icy waters around Antarctica. Also, rules for cruise ship visits to the Antarctic peninsula state that only 100 passengers (plus expedition staff members) can be ashore at any given landing at a time, and ships carrying more than 200 passengers can only land at specific locations. The result is that Viking Polaris does not have full access to all the landing sites on the peninsula and also that guests have limited time ashore to make sure everyone on board can rotate through, 100 people at a time. The spa is modeled on what you find on their ocean ships, and there's simply nothing else like it on other expedition ships.

Excursions include scenic outings to view wildlife and scenery; trips to Antarctica, where guests explore the area; submarine trips down to the ocean’s depths; and kayaking. The Viking polar expedition ship’s staterooms all feature Nordic balconies with unique floor-to-ceiling windows. You can open the top of the window to take in the sights and smells of the outside from the comfort of your room. The Explorer Suite and the Owner’s Suite on the expedition ships also have private outdoor spaces. In addition to being comfortable passenger cruise ships, Octantis and Polaris are research vessels.

Since the start, it's been our aim to provide the latest cruise news covering all the major cruise lines. We make sure cruisers are fully prepared for their cruise vacation with tips on ships and ports.Millions of travelers rely on Cruise Hive in the United States, Europe, Australia, and around the world. This includes an extraordinary 87-day Longitudinal World Cruise expedition departing in September 2025 titled ‘From the Arctic to Antarctica.’ The cruise starts from Nuuk, Greenland, high above the Arctic Circle. Guests will sail thousands of miles south to Ushuaia, Argentina, commonly known as the last city in the world and just short of the Antarctic Circle. All cruises are accompanied by the Viking Expedition Team, in collaboration with institutions like the Scott Polar Research Institute and The Cornell Lab of Ornithology, which brings onboard leading researchers and educators. Even the inviting Nordic Spa thermal suite is free to use, and was the perfect interlude between chilly outings.

On the Disney Fantasy, Animator’s Palate has a different look but brings all the interactive fun. Complete with a chat from Finding Nemo’s Crush, and a chance to draw your own animated characters. Know that while Cabanas is open throughout the day it does close at certain times, so get familiar with the schedule once you are on board. Pre-pandemic, Cabanas also offered a sit-down dinner option for those wishing to have a more flexible dining schedule. We haven’t seen that return to Disney Cruise Line yet, but it may in the future. Verandah Rooms include a balcony with seating that overlooks the water and are a dream on cruises with a view but do cost significantly more.

My wife and I tend to prefer the smaller ships for this very reason — but I can honestly say we’ve never found the difference compelling enough to steer us toward solely booking the smaller ships. Interestingly enough, Katie and I have sailed onboard the larger ships more than the smaller ones, even though we prefer the smaller ones. From the atrium, take gleaming glass elevators to your stateroom or to any of the restaurants, theatres, pools, and activities scattered about the ship’s 14 passenger decks. In our opinion, the Northern Italian menu is worth the premium fee you pay for it. When you top off the delicious kids-free meal with gorgeous seascapes, you have a brunch or dinner to remember. The Disney Fantasy offers exclusive dining opportunities to fulfill those wishes.

If you’re Disney Cruise Itinerary includes a stop at Castaway Cay, then be sure to check out the Castaway Cay 5K race! This self-paced 5K brings you through the trails on Castaway Cay and is perfect for both kids and adults. You can walk or run it, and simply have to sign in at the bike rental kiosk on the island to get started.

Casual Dining on the Disney Fantasy Cruise Ship

This care place is filled with activities and fun to keep your little one occupied and safe while you enjoy other things onboard. As one of the larger ships in the Disney Cruise Line Ship Fleet, the Disney Fantasy holds 4000 passengers and has a total of 14 decks. Staterooms on the Disney Fantasy are 25% larger than the current cruise ship industry average. And the roomier space was something we definitely noticed while on board this ship. The Fantasy’s sister ship, Disney Dream, has the same layout, and size, while the Disney Wish Cruise Ship is slightly bigger.

Deck Parties

The "Senses" Spa & Salon offers all the usual treatments (haircuts, manicures) and more exotic choices (hot-stone massages, mud baths). The Fitness Center along with the usual equipment offers at additional fee Yoga and Pilates classes. The Sports Deck has a small sports court, a mini-golf course, Ping-Pong tables, a walking/jogging track. Follows the complete list of Disney Fantasy restaurants and food bars. The 2012-built MS Disney Fantasy cruise ship is Walt Disney's second (Dream-class) liner with sistership Disney Dream (2010). Exclusively for guests aged 13-17, this special area of Senses offers treatments to teens.

Disney Fantasy Rotational Dining Restaurants

It's the subtle effects of this dining room that make it so delightful. Once on Castaway Cay, you can head to the far beach, called Serenity Bay. This sparkling beach includes access to a bar, eatery, and stretches of beach filled with loungers and umbrellas. Notably less crowded than the family beaches, if you’re looking for a place to get away, head to Serenity Bay.

What Pixar Characters are on the Pixar Day at Sea?

So, whether you’re looking for luxury, a suite to fit the whole family or a smaller interior room, you’ll likely have no difficulty finding a stateroom to fit your needs. And, of course, wheelchair-accessible staterooms are available as well in all the different room categories. Perhaps you’re a regular exerciser, or maybe you just want to offset several days of all-you-can-eat meals.

Disney Cruise Line Reveals Name and Details for New Ship

The new Disney Lines approach to teens and young couples (by age-related activities and limited access onboard venues) adds a really strong appeal for multi-generational cruisers. Down on deck 4, you’ll also find shuffleboard courts — a classic cruise activity. Elsewhere on the sports deck, you’ll find other, more mainstream pursuits, such as a basketball court and even a digital sports simulator (fees apply). Given Disney’s reputation as an entertainment powerhouse, it’s no surprise that the shows and experiences onboard the Disney Fantasy are of the highest quality. Those aged 14 to 17 have a unique indoor/outdoor space made just for them, complete with a super secret entrance!

The Disney Fantasy boasts 1,250 staterooms, most of which offer outside views through a porthole window or a private verandah (balcony). There are four primary types of staterooms on the ship; each of those four types is further divided into multiple categories and subcategories. Your choice of stateroom is one of the biggest factors in the how much a Disney Cruise costs, because the per-person cost can increase depending on the stateroom category. Larger ships such as the Fantasy are at a disadvantage in smaller ports where they might simply not fit, but this usually is not a concern. The Concierge Level Lounge allows guests to access the internet, drink a cocktail, watch news or sports on a huge TV, and partake of complimentary beverages and food served throughout the day. I took a book and loved just gazing out at the endless horizon of sea.

The Disney Fantasy has a few different Ports of Call, though all sailings are out of Port Canaveral, Florida. Sailing to the Eastern and Western Caribbean, as well as Disney’s Castaway Cay, here are a few ports you may see on your cruise. Be sure to check out your specific cruise and dates to see where you’re sailing. The Disney Fantasy has a variety of pools, and water features for babies, kids, and adults.

Basically, it’s a reason to dress up, sing some sea shanties, and catch Mickey and Friends in their pirate costumes. This is also the evening event where Disney Cruise sets off their famous Fireworks at Sea! So, if you’re looking for extra fun, be sure to take the time and head to Deck 11 for the Pirate Night party on the FunnelVision deck. A big question to consider on any Disney Cruise is what kind of Disney Cruise stateroom you need. And since prices vary across all of these room types, it’s good to get an idea of what they each offer so you can make your best choice. Mind you, we’re not including concierge, or suites simply because we haven’t yet stayed in either.

One-way Alaska cruises vs round-trip: Which is best?

alaska one way cruise

I spend an embarrassing amount of time looking through my binoculars on an Alaska cruise—I’m on whale watching duty, as I like to call it. Whether spotting whales or viewing glaciers close-up, binoculars undoubtedly make an Alaska cruise more immersive. Arriving a day early eases the stress of travel by ensuring I have enough wiggle room in the case of flight delays or cancellations. While you don’t have to book excursions in every port, we still recommend having a general idea of what to expect in each Alaska port.

Planning a Trip To Alaska: Land vs. Sea Royal Caribbean Cruises

If it’s an adventure you want, the world’s largest and highest ZipRider is located here, running 5,495 feet with a 1,300-foot drop and top speed of 65 mph. Luggage Valet transfers your suitcase directly from the ship to the airport and onto your plane. There’s no need to travel from the cruise terminal with the luggage yourself, and this is a huge time (and stress) saver for many passengers. The sailaway in Skagway, as an example, travels through the Inside Passage for several hours, passing massive glaciers and mountain ranges along the way. One of the unique aspects of cruising Alaska is sailing through the narrow inlets of the state’s Inside Passage.

ALASKA CRUISETOURS

Or extend your stay with one of our Alaska Cruisetours to explore Alaska’s interiors. Head deep into the wilderness of Denali, immerse yourself in the exciting contemporary culture of Anchorage, and spend time in quirky, arty Talkeetna. Another benefit of a Northbound Alaska cruise is the flexibility to fly into either Seattle or Vancouver to begin your cruise. Seattle is three and a half hours from Vancouver and there are a variety of transportation options including motorcoach and train to get you there. Both cities are so different, first time visitors could enjoy touring Seattle, Victoria and Vancouver before embarking on their cruise.

Alaska Northbound Glacier Cruises

While you should definitely still pack a few warm outfits, be sure to pack lightweight layers like t-shirts, long sleeve shirts, and, yes, maybe even a pair of shorts. One mistake I see many first time Alaska cruisers make is packing clothes more suited for Antarctica than southeast Alaska. As shocking as it sounds, you can feel uncomfortably warm on an Alaska cruise in the middle of summer. As long as you wear and/or pack appropriate layers for each port day, everything should go smoothly. It’s important to remain flexible, nonetheless, and to mentally prepare yourself to feel uncomfortable—it’s unlikely you’ll encounter ideal weather conditions in every port.

alaska one way cruise

Other itineraries begin in Fairbanks and, after the land journey, sail south from Seward to Vancouver. You’ll also see whales; the Inside Passage is a great place to spot humpbacks and orcas. Look out for bald eagles perched in the trees, steller sea lions spread out on rocks, and cute sea otters bobbing in the water. To search for the Big Five—grizzly bears, wolves, caribou, Dall sheep, and moose—extend your vacation with a Cruisetour and a visit to Denali National Park.

Discover the best things to do in Alaska, where its vast landscapes, glaciers, wildlife, and rich history offer endless opportunities for adventure. Like everything else in Alaska, the Great Land’s national parks far exceed expectations. Read about Glacier Bay’s seven tidewater glaciers, Denali’s 6-million acres of undisturbed wilderness, Kenai Fjords' astonishing Exit Glacier and other national parks.
